Deputies: Man facing DUI charges after accidentally shooting himself in the leg

The El Paso County Sheriff’s office says one man accidentally shot himself after a crash in Security Monday afternoon.

Deputies responded to the incident around 1 p.m. on Goldfield Drive. Investigators say the driver was involved in an accident on the side of the road, and was under the influence of prescription drugs.

A gun the driver had tucked into his shorts accidentally went off while he was getting out of his car. The man was hit in the leg, according to Sheriff’s Office spokeswomanJacqueline Kirby.

He was taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries, and was later released.

He is facing charges of driving under the influence, prohibited use of a weapon and false reporting.

A woman who was in the car at the time was not hurt.
