Pueblo Community College reacts to Oregon campus shooting
When a situation like a campus shooting arises, how can you be ready?
Every semester, Pueblo Community College faculty and staff are briefed on emergency drills. They’re also alerted on their phones if a situation arises.
One student says because of those protocols combined with what she’s learned throughout the years, she still feels safe on campus.
“I don’t really think twice about the kind of system they have here. I feel we’re pretty protected. God forbid if something were to happen here, I would apply what I’ve learned through elementary, middle and high school,” said Jasmine Quintana, freshman at PCC.
The president of PCC said she’s confident the college is prepared if something were to happen, but more can always be done to create awareness.
“It’s up to each one of us to remain alert, and to remain aware of surroundings. If we see something unusual we need to report it immediately,” said Dr. Patty Erjavec, president at PCC.
The college also has emergency lights that students can push to alert police if they’re in danger.
