Security at school heightened following student’s arrest
Colorado Springs School District 11 says security was increased, the day after a student was arrested for carrying a gun near Mitchell High School.
D-11 says several rumors started circulating following a student’s arrest, but that all of the rumors have been investigated and deemed unfounded.
The district said it was business as usual for students inside the school Thursday.
The rumors started after a 15-year-old Mitchell student was arrested with a gun off campus Wednesday. The district said it doesn’t know if he ever had the gun on campus.
The teen faces a charge for possession of a firearm by a juvenile. He’ll spend at least the next four days in a youth detention facility.
D-11 has a zero tolerance policy and the student faces a disciplinary hearing which could result in expulsion.
