Bear relocated from area southeast of Colorado Springs after weeks of avoiding capture
EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) captured a bear Sunday night that had been avoiding capture in an area southeast of Colorado Springs for weeks.
According to CPW, the bear had been roaming an area along Jimmy Camp Creek and knocking over trash cans for weeks before it wandered into a CPW bear trap. Jimmy Camp Creek runs south from east of the Cimarron Hills area in Colorado Springs down to south of the Fountain area, where it joins Fountain Creek.
CPW said the bear had become a nuisance and was getting far too comfortable around people.
The female bear was estimated to be two-years-old and weigh 150 pounds. It is being relocated to prime bear habitat in the mountains.
LISTEN as @COParksWildlife Officer Drew Vrbenec describes trapping the sub-adult female bear, estimated to be just 2 years old and 150 pounds. He will relocate it to more appropriate bear habitat in the mountains, far from the #ColoradoSprings area. (3/3) pic.twitter.com/eOxAJQD7jK
