National Drug Take Back Day is this Saturday
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- National Drug Take Back Day is this Saturday, Oct. 29.
The national event is a partnership between the DEA and local law enforcement across the country. Unused, unwanted, or expired medications can be turned in and it will be properly disposed of by law enforcement.
The DEA says its National Drug Take Back Day reflects the agency's commitment to Americans’ safety and health by encouraging the public to remove unneeded medications from their homes as a measure of preventing medication misuse and opioid addiction from ever starting.
Locally, the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) is hosting multiple locations where medication can be dropped off:
- Police Operations Center - 705 South Nevada Avenue, Colorado Springs, CO 80903
- University of Colorado Memorial Hospital North - 4050 Briargate Parkway, Colorado Springs, CO 80920
- Security Fire Station 1 - 400 Security Blvd, Colorado Springs, CO 80911
- King Soopers, 7915 Constitution Ave., Colorado Springs, CO 80951
In Pueblo, medications can be dropped off at the Pueblo Police Department, located at 200 S. Main St.
In Pueblo County, the Sheriff's Office is accepting medication at the following locations:
- Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office West Sub-Station, 320 Joe Martinez Blvd.
- Pueblo Rural Fire Station, 29912 U.S. Highway 50 E (between Wago Drive and 30th Lane)
- Valley Health Mart Pharmacy, 4493 Bent Brothers Blvd. Colorado City

Medications can be dropped off at any location between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. All medications must be removed from their original packaging. Liquids, creams, gels, and aerosols will not be accepted.
