WEATHER ALERT: Critical Fire Weather, Significant Mountain Snow and Cold Air Plunge

Tonight:  Mostly clear and breezy to windy at times with low temperatures in the 40s and 50s for the plains, with 30s to lower 40s for the mountains and high mountain valleys. Strong, and perhaps damaging wind gusts are possible over and near the Wet and Sangre De Cristo mountains starting around or shortly after midnight.

Sunday:  Increasing clouds, windy, and cooler with high temperatures in the 50s over the mountains and high mountain valleys, 60s and 70s along the I-25 corridor, and lower 80s for the far eastern plains. We expect some snow to fall over the Continental Divide during the day, and possibly some spotty rain and snow showers late in the afternoon and Sunday night over and near the eastern mountains and possibly over the Palmer Divide.

Extended:  Monday will be colder again and still breezy with a mixture of clouds and sun. Isolated rain and snow showers will remain possible over and near the mountains, but it does not currently appear we should expect widespread or organized precipitation for most areas. Expect afternoon temperatures only in the 40s and 50s for the plains with 30s and lower 40s for the mountains and high mountain valleys. All areas should expect below freezing temperatures Monday night with some mountain communities falling into the teens.

Tuesday and Wednesday look mostly sunny, breezy, and warmer with temperatures in the 50s and 60s for most areas during the afternoon. Colder air may arrive again for Thursday and Friday with another chance for rain and snow over some areas.
