Tenants see damage from Manitou Springs house fire

A house fire in Manitou Springs left eight people without a home on the 4 th of July. Three cats also died from the flames.

According to court documents Nicchi Ladawn See set the house on fire as an act of punishment, to get back at her now-ex boyfriend.

Manitou Springs Police say See had been out of state for the last few weeks and her ex had moved in with another woman.

On Wednesday the tenants were allowed back inside the burned home to see the damage for themselves.

“It’s just basically like seeing your family lose everything they have,” said Morgan Shadix, one of the tenants who lost their home.

Brandon Gray survived the fire by jumping out of his second story window. He had no time to save his three cats.

“I found one cat underneath the bed, she was just buried in wreckage. I got the neighborhood to help us decorate a tomb stone, we buried them at the top of the hill,” said Gray.

The fire investigation is ongoing, but fire crews told the tenants that someone spread lighter fluid on the porch, used a lighter and left. Minutes after the first flames, See called 911 to confess.

“She’s an ex of one of the neighbors, just jealousy,” said Shadix.

See was arrested for first-degree arson, criminal mischief, attempted manslaughter, attempted second-degree assault and aggravated cruelty to animals.

See will be in court next week for her first appearance.

The group who lost their home has set up a go-fund-me page for help.
