UPDATE: Suspect arrested in Colorado Springs death investigation
A car chase led to the arrest of a suspect Wednesday night in connection with a death investigation in Colorado Springs.
Police said that chase began about 6 p.m. at the Grand River Canyon Apartments in the 7600 block of Matt Point, the same complex where a woman’s body was found Wednesday morning.
The suspect, whose name hasn’t been released, was identified by several residents as being at the complex, police said, and tried to flee in a vehicle. Police said the suspect drove dangerously and they were forced to use their patrol cars to disable his vehicle.
No one was hurt and officers took the man into custody.
Earlier on Wednesday afternoon, police made a traffic stop near the intersection of Austin Bluffs Parkway and Farmingdale Drive. Officers recovered a vehicle they said was missing from the apartment complex.
Police wouldn’t say whether the car belonged to the woman, only that it belonged to an apartment resident. Police provided no details about the driver of the car or the driver’s relationship to the death.
Also on Wednesday afternoon, police released further details about the woman’s death. They said a male friend became concerned after not hearing from her in several days, and the friend broke into the apartment to find her with plastic around her head.
Police went to the apartment around 4 a.m. Wednesday on a call for urgent assistance.
Officers also said the friend had dropped by the woman’s home on Tuesday, and was greeted by an unidentified man who said he was house-sitting.
Police have not released the names of the three people involved in the case, or explained how they’re connected.
The woman’s name, along with her cause and manner of death, will be released after an autopsy, police said, although they believe the case is a homicide.
