11 arrested in Denver protest of Freddie Gray’s death

Denver police say they arrested 11 people during a protest of the death of a black man after being taken into custody by Baltimore police.

Police said eight men and three women were arrested in Wednesday night’s protest, mostly for misdemeanors like resisting police and obstructing roadways. However, The Denver Post reports one protester was arrested on an assault charge after allegedly knocking a police officer off his motorcycle.

After that police used pepper on some of the protesters and police in riot gear shut down Broadway near the state Capitol.

The protest started with about 100 people, who gathered at the downtown jail and marched by the Capitol. After the confrontation with police, some also walked down the 16th Street pedestrian mall.
