Flag raising ceremony planned to honor fallen El Paso Co. Sheriff’s deputy Aug. 12

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- The El Paso County Sheriff's Office will hold a flag raising ceremony Friday to honor Deputy Andrew Peery, who died in the line of duty Sunday, Aug. 7.
Sunday night, El Paso County Sheriff's Office issued a shelter-in-place for residents in the Ponderosa Drive and Grand Boulevard area following a shots fired call at 5:07 p.m.
According to the sheriff's office, Peery, another deputy, and a Fountain Police Officer were "immediately met with gunfire."
Peery was transported to a hospital, where he died. During that shooting, former marine Alex Paz also lost her life.
The flag raising ceremony will happen Friday, Aug. 12 at 9 a.m. in front of the sheriff's office. The flag will then be used to drape Peery's coffin at his upcoming funeral service.
From 7 a.m. to 10 a.m., Vermijo will be blocked between Tejon and Cascade.
