Crews battling five small fires in Fremont County
FREMONT COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- Crews are battling two small fires reportedly burning in Fremont County.
According to the Cañon City Area Fire Protection District, an apparent lightning strike sparked a fire. The wildland fire is burning southwest of Cañon City.
As of 3 p.m., only one tree is burning, high on the ridge west of the Ecology Park on Fremont County Road 3. This is 100% contained as of 4 p.m.
Crews are aware of the wildland fire and are assessing the situation.
Another small wildland fire is burning north of Beaver Creek trailhead in a remote area on land managed by the Bureau of Land Management.
According to the Fremont County Office of Emergency Management, smoke is visible from Highway 50.
The Fremont County OEM said resources are on the scene and more are in route as of 3:03 p.m.
As of 6:02 p.m. On CR28/Copper Gulch, the WASHTUB fire has ground and air resources on scene. It is5 acres. Miter Peak has resources in route. East Gulch Fire in Tallahassee Fire District has resources on scene. It is 5 acres. There are ground resources on the scene, and air resources have been canceled. The area is getting good precipitation and hail at this time.
All fires are on BLM Lands, BLM is in command of all fires. Local, state and federal resources are all working together. There are no evacuations and no structures are being threatened.
