JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- A reported brush fire burning in Jefferson County has forced evacuations.
Tuesday, at 3:23 p.m., the Jefferson County (Jeffco) Sheriff's Office announced crews were responding to the fire burning in the area of Highway 285 and Highway 8, near Mt. Lindo.
Officials said the fire, dubbed the Snowcreek Fire, is on the south side of the highway and is spreading south. While there are no structures that are immediately threatened, officials announced some mandatory evacuations.
At 3:37 p.m., the Jeffco Sheriff's Office said there was a full evacuation for Mt. Lindo and the tip of Willow Springs. At that point, officials announced the evacuation site was The Fort.
However, at 4:35 p.m., the sheriff's office said the evacuation center was moved to Bear Creek High School.
Jeffco Sheriff's personnel conducted door-to-door evacuations.
According to the sheriff's office, West Metro Fire and air support arrived at the scene to help with the efforts. Douglas County is lending its helicopter to the effort.
West Metro Fire said because the area is difficult to access, three crews of firefighters with hand tools were forced to hike to the fire.
