Fort Carson soldier killed in motorcycle accident in southeast Colorado Springs
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- A Fort Carson soldier has died from his injuries after getting hit by a car while riding a motorcycle in southeast Colorado Springs.
On June 18, the Colorado Springs Police Department were dispatched to the intersection of S. Chelton Rd. and Zebulon Dr. about a traffic accident involving a Chevrolet sedan and motorcycle.
At the scene, police learned the Chevrolet sedan made a left turn onto South Zebulon Dr., after traveling East on S. Chelton Rd.
As the Chevrolet sedan proceeded to turn left, a motorcycle traveling West on Chelton Rd., hit the front passenger side of the sedan.
Colorado Springs Fire Department and American Medical Response responded to the scene and treated the motorcyclist. Then, the motorcyclist was taken to the hospital.
Police say the motorcyclist died at the hospital from his injuries sustained in the crash.
Police say speed or alcohol are not being considered in the investigation.
On June 20, the El Paso County Coroner's Office has identified the motorcyclist to be 36-year-old Sgt. First-Class Micheal O. Adeyanju.
Adeyanju arrived at Fort Carson on Dec. 26, 2017. He was in the fourth Combat Aviation Brigade, fourth Infantry Division.
In a statement released from command:
“We offer our deepest sympathies and condolences to Sgt. 1st Class Michael Adeyanju’s family and loved ones. It’s heartbreaking to lose such a dedicated, talented, and impactful person,” said Col. Joshua Ruisánchez, commander of the 4th Combat Aviation Brigade, 4th Infantry Division. “Adeyanju fought for his country and lived each and every day teaching and mentoring Soldiers. His presence will be sorely missed. This is tough.”
