Plow drivers spend day clearing roads after storm
Plow drivers went to work early Sunday after snow fell across most of Colorado.
Sheldon Bennett is a plow driver based in Teller County. He plowed businesses and private roads outside of Cripple Creek until Sunday evening. He said Sunday’s snow was easy to take care of compared to other storms.
He said he typically starts at 2 a.m. and plows until his work is done. He can be out for several days with very little sleep and food.
“This is my business so it’s long hours sometimes,” said Bennett.
He said the hardest part of his job is other drivers on the road. He said he comes across drivers who are ill-prepared to drive in the snow. He estimated he pulls 30 drivers out of snow banks each winter.
Bennett maneuvers his truck around narrow mountain roads in the snow. He said people call him crazy for plowing during bad weather.
“When the weather is at its worst, I do my best,” said Bennett.
There is another system moving through in the middle of the week that could bring more snow.
