The flu is hitting Pueblo County early this season

The number of flu cases in Pueblo County is quickly rising.

The Pueblo City-County Health Department said 14 people have been hospitalized because of the flu and at this point last season there was only one.

The people who have the flu are as old as 84 and as young as six days.

“We really want to emphasize pregnant women those who are going to be around new born babies to get their flu shots, babies can’t get their flu shot until they are six months old, until then, they are left unprotected,” Health Department Program Manager Jenna Ward said.

11 of the 14 people who have been hospitalized because of the flu did not get vaccinated.
