City Looking For Input on Parking Plans in Ivywild Neighborhood

City officials in Colorado Springs are looking for public input on two plans to increase parking in the Ivywild neighborhood.

Planners are holding a meeting tomorrow night (Monday 11-24-14) from 5:30 – 7:00 pm at the Ivywild school.

They are looking at two options to improve parking on S. Cascade Ave.

These include adding more parking spots, or changing Cascade to a one-way street.

Residents and Business owners are encouraged to attend.

Here is more detailed information from the city, including other projects they are working on in the area:

The City has three projects scheduled for construction over the next couple of years in the immediate vicinity of the Ivywild School. To coordinate these projects, the City studied this area, looking for any opportunities that may exist to cohesively implement these three projects. The study revealed two key opportunities:

1. Provide a continuous sidewalk along South Cascade; and

2. Provide more on-street parking

Monday night’s meeting will present two options to residents and property owners in the Ivywild neighborhood to increase the availability of on-street parking and alleviate business traffic parking in residential areas.

Currently there are 49 on-street parking spaces along South Cascade.

Option 1: maximize the parking in the right-of-way, adding another 29 spaces for a total of 78 on-street parking spaces.

Option 2: Convert South Cascade to a one-way street in the southbound direction, which would increase parking to a total of 106 on-street parking spaces

The City seeks public comment on the proposed changes that would be required to implement both or either of the two options to increase on-street parking along South Cascade.

The City of Colorado Springs has scheduled a meeting to receive neighborhood feedback on potential roadway and parking changes for Cascade Ave between Cheyenne Blvd and Brookside St. Residents and property owners near this roadway are invited and encouraged to attend this meeting.

Projects scheduled in the Ivywild neighborhood:

1. E. Navajo Improvements- Began in Nov. 2014. Project to install curb, gutter, sidewalk and on-street parking. E. Navajo will become one-way (westbound)

2. Five-Points Roundabout- Scheduled to begin in summer of 2015. Project to remove existing traffic signal at Cascade Ave/Tejon St/Ramona Ave/Cheyenne Blvd intersection and replace it with a roundabout.

3. S Cascade Bridge- Scheduled to being in Spring 2016, this project will replace the existing functionally obsolete bridge with a new bridge
