6 people killed after 2-separate vehicle crashes in Weld County
WELD COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- Monday, six people were killed after being involved in two-separate vehicle crashes on Interstate 25 in Weld County, according to Colorado State Patrol (CSP). Now, investigators are asking witnesses to come forward for additional information about the second crash.
After 1:30 p.m., CSP received a report of a four-vehicle crash near mile marker 243 on Interstate 25. The crash killed five people from one vehicle. The driver from another vehicle received minor injuries.
The following vehicles were involved:
- 1999 Kenworth semi-truck
- 2015 Ford Edge
- 2013 Ford Focus
- 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander
According to CSP, investigators say they believe the 2015 Ford Edge and 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander were in the left lane on Interstate I-25. Also, the 1999 Kenworth semi-truck was in the northbound left lane before it rear-ended the 2013 Ford Edge at an unknown speed, which forced the vehicle to the left side of the lane and into the center median.
CSP say they believe the 1999 Kenworth semi-truck hit the 2015 Ford Edge a second time before the semi-truck hit the cable rail in the median.
Interstate 25 was shut down following the crash. Traffic was diverted at Exit 243.
All five occupants from the 2015 Ford Edge were declared to be killed on scene.
Occupants from each vehicle:
Vehicle One
- A 26-year-old male from Denver, CO, not injured.
Vehicle Two
- A 20-year-old male driver from Gillette, WY, declared deceased at Medical Center of the Rockies.
- A 20-year-old female passenger from Gillette, WY, declared deceased on scene.
- A 47-year-old female passenger from Gillette, WY, declared deceased on scene.

- A 30-year-old female driver from Denver, CO, not injured.
- A 30-year-old male passenger from Palmdale, CA, not injured.
- A 7-year-old unknown passenger from Brentwood, CA, no injured.
Investigators say they don't believe drugs and alcohol, nor speed are factors in the crash.
That same day, CSP received another report of a three-vehicle crash resulting in one person being killed near mile marker 235 on northbound Interstate 25.
CSP say a 2021 Kawasaki motorcycle was traveling in the northbound left lane, just after 2:20 p.m.
An unknown semi-truck and trailer were traveling northbound in the center lane.
And another 2001 International semi-trailer and trailer were traveling in the center, northbound right lane.
As the Kawasaki was changing multiple lanes, it hit the unknown semi-truck's trailer followed by hitting the International trailer.
The motorcycle rolled and slid into the middle lane, eventually getting run over by the International semi-truck.
CSP say the unknown semi-truck didn't stop at the scene but the International semi-truck stopped on the right shoulder roadway.
The 30-year-old motorcycle rider from Northglenn was declared dead at the scene.
The 50-year-old International semi-truck driver from Denver was not injured.
Investigators say they believe the motorcycle was traveling at a high-speed rate at the time of the crash.
