Man dies following apartment fire in Colorado Springs

The Colorado Springs Fire Department confirmed this morning that a man is dead after an apartment fire Friday night.

The CSFD began receiving calls around 9:15 p.m. about the fire at the Courtyard De Cortez apartment complex, 3006 De Cortez St., near the intersection of Circle Drive and Galley Road.

Firefighters arrived at the complex and found a smoke and flames coming from the second floor. Firefighters were able to contain the fire within one of the apartments.

After receiving reports of someone possibly being trapped inside, firefighters found the victim in the apartment. He was taken to a hospital where he later died. His name has not been released.

No further details are available about the cause of the fire. No one else was injured.

The investigation is ongoing. At the height of the fire, 26 firefighters were at the scene.

Several residents were temporarily displaced and assisted by the Red Cross but all residents returned to their apartments as of this morning.
