Flash flood watch continues through midday Friday

A flash flood watch that was issued for the Colorado Springs area Thursday has expired.

Marksheffel Road remains closed at Barnes Road because of flooding.

Significant street flooding was also reported at Austin Bluffs and Union, 8th and Moreno, Hancock and Astrozon and on Las Vegas Street near Royer.

KRDO viewers reported flooding on Fort Carson north of Gate 20 and at Main St. and Security Blvd. in Security.

A flood warning has been issued for Fountain Creek near Fountain until late tonight. Flood stage is 8 feet. The creek is expected to reach 8.1 feet by this afternoon. Minor agricultural flooding is expected.

A flash flood watch remains in effect for the eastern mountains and I-25 corridor, including Colorado Springs, Pueblo, Canon City, Woodland Park, Trinidad, Walsenburg and surrounding areas. The watch includes the Black Forest, East Peak, Eightmile and Waldo Canyon burn scars. The watch began at noon Thursday and expires at noon Friday.

Rain will continue to be widespread, and at times heavy, across much of southern Colorado as moisture from the remnants of once Hurricane Simon combine with a cold front over the region.

The system will bring snow to the high mountain peaks of southern Colorado. A winter storm warning has been issued for Pikes Peak and the Sangre De Cristo Mountains above 11,000 feet, and the Wet Mountains above 10,000 feet. 8″-14″ of snow is expected to accumulate in these areas.
