Colorado fracking panel meets in Durango

A group studying land disputes over hydraulic fracturing in Colorado is holding its second meeting during its months-long effort to come up with recommendations for state lawmakers next year.

The group will meet in Durango on Thursday and Friday.

The 21-member panel was part of a deal brokered by Gov. John Hickenlooper to get groups to drop dueling ballot measures in November that either opposed or supported fracking. Hickenlooper and the energy industry worried the anti-fracking measures would have had negative impacts on the state economy.

But supporters of the measures to limit fracking argued communities need more control over oil and gas development in residential areas.
