Colorado House passes revenge porn penalties
Legislation to criminalize posting intimate photos or videos of significant others to humiliate them has unanimously passed the Colorado House.
The measure would make it a misdemeanor to publish explicit pictures or videos of someone without their consent to cause them “serious emotional distress.” Such online postings have become known as “revenge porn” and about two dozen states have considered legislation this year addressing the issue, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.
Under the Colorado bill, offenders would also be fined at least $10,000 and ordered to remove the images from the Internet.
House lawmakers approved the bill Monday on a 65-0 vote, and it now goes to the Senate for consideration.
