Suspected drunk driver crashes into garage, damages 2 homes

Two homes were damaged Friday night (2/14/14) after a suspected drunk driver crashed into a garage of a home.

It happened in the 200 block of S. Chelton Rd. in Colorado Springs.

Police say 18-year-old Jorge Lopez was speeding down Chelton Rd. and ran off the side of the road. His truck crashed into the garage of a home, causing extensive damage. Witnesses say Lopez’s truck continued on and rolled on top of a car parked in the driveway of another home, totaling the car in the driveway. The second home also sustained damage from the debris thrown off the first home.

This wasn’t the first time the neighborhood has seen crashes like that. The boyfriend of the homeowner of the second home, Brian Cullen, says his girlfriend’s home has been hit twice by speeding cars.

Police say a 17-year-old passenger was taken to the hospital with a suspected broken arm. A second passenger was treated and released for minor injuries. No one in either of the two homes were hurt.

Police arrested Lopez on charges of Careless Driving, DUI and Vehicular Assault.
