Holiday fliers say travel day was better than expected

People arriving into Colorado Springs Airport said Wednesday their travel day was better than expected.

The day before Thanksgiving is the second busiest travel day of the year. Denver International Airport, DIA, estimated 158,000 travelers would pass through its terminals Wednesday — nine percent more than the average day.

There were no lines to check in or get through security at the Colorado Springs Airport. The estimated wait time for security at DIA was 5 minutes at Noon.

Todd Lewis flew from Los Angeles to Colorado Springs.

“We flew in through United,” said Lewis. “There were no lines or anything like that so it was kind of smooth sailing for us so we kind of lucked out.”

Anderson House was on the same flight arriving from LAX.

“No issues,” said House describing his travel day. “Took off, landed, now we are here.”

Colorado Department of Transportation had good news for drivers whose holiday travel plans included a trip of Interstate 25.

CDOTopened the third lane of I-25 southbound between the Interquest Parkway exit and the Woodmen Road exit. CDOT plans to open I-25 northbound between Woodmen Road and Academy Boulevard exits Thursday.
