District Attorney faces suspension, disbarment

The elected district attorney for Las Animas and Huerfano counties is accused of mishandling 16 criminal cases since 2010.

The Denver Post reports that 3rd Judicial District Attorney Frank Ruybalid faces a suspension of his license or disbarment when the case goes to trial in April.

A complaint filed by the Colorado Attorney Regulations Counsel includes multiple claims that Ruybalid blatantly disobeyed court orders and intentionally violated state rules requiring him to provide the defense with evidence, some of which could have been used to prove innocence or lessen the offense.

Ruybalid admits to facts of the cases but denies all claims of rule violations by himself and his prosecutors. He was elected in 2008
