Deadly crash on Peyton Highway

One man was killed in a single vehicle accident on Peyton Highway on Tuesday morning.

Colorado State Patrol said that a 1986 Toyota pickup was traveling southbound on Peyton Highway when the driver lost control on the icy, snow-packed roadway. The vehicle went off the road, hit a fence then rolled.

The driver of the vehicle, 77-year-old Raymond Lippert of Colorado Springs, was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, Colorado State Patrol said. Lippert was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

At this time, alcohol use is not considered to be a factor in the crash, state patrol said.

Driving too fast for the road conditions is suspected in the crash, which remains under investigation at this time.
