Plane land at Colorado Springs Airport with engine fire

Colorado Springs firefighters responded Saturday to an emergency landing at the Colorado Springs airport after an engine caught fire.

A spokesman with the Colorado Springs Airport said that the military aircraft was approaching the airport at about 2:10 p.m. Saturday for a landing when it’s engine caught fire.

Officials said the C-5 aircraft landed and all 10 people on board are safe.

An airport spokesman said the C-5 was carrying heavy military equipment from Lackland Airforce Base in San Antonio to Colorado Springs. Crews aboard the plane discharged extinguisher into the engine while in flight and Colorado Springs fire crews discharged foam onto once it landed.

Officials said the aircraft will be inspected and towed.
