CSPD chase suspect in court Friday

The man who had to be helped off a roof by Colorado Springs Police Department following a wild chase was in court Friday.

Police said just before 2 p.m. Thursday, they responded to a report of someone stealing gas and taking parts from a vehicle near the intersection of Galley Road and Yuma Street. Officers said they learned a man was driving a stolen red Dodge pickup truck.

Police later identified the suspect as Mark Sticka, 45. Sticka was in court Friday facing several charges including assault, motor vehicle theft, and vehicular alluding.

Three patrol cars pursued Sticka, police said, but briefly stopped the pursuit after he drove across a raised center median on Platte Avenue. Police said at one point during the pursuit, Sticka threatened to back into the patrol cars.

Police said they saw the truck enter the parking lot of the Auto Pro Service Center at the intersection of Platte Place and Yuma Street. The owner of the business told them Sticka got out of the truck and climbed up to the roof.

Several officers followed Sticka and struggled with him, police said, before they finally subdued him with a Taser. The fire department then arrived to bring Sticka down from the roof safely. He was taken to Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries received during the struggle. According to court documents, Sticka was hit four times with a Taser.

Police said Sticka already was wanted for questioning about a felony menacing case. Now he faces charges of attempted first-degree assault on a peace officer, motor vehicle theft and vehicular eluding. Police said the truck matched the description of one stolen on the city’s north side last weekend.

Police said the stolen truck was returned to its owner, and they’re still investigating the relationship between Sticka and the owner.

Court documents also indicate that Sticka struck several vehicles as he was leaving the home on Bijou Street and evading police.
