Arrest made in Monte Vista double homicide

A man was arrested in Oklahoma on Saturday, charged with murdering two people in Monte Vista, Colo. last February.

Daniel M. Bessey is charged with two counts of first degree murder in the homicides of 54-year-old John Salazar and 29-year-old Sarah Beasley. The two were killed in their shared home in the 500 block of Lyell Street in Monte Vista. Police told KRDO NewsChannel 13 in February that there was also a drug reference tagged on the outside of the home.

Officials from the Monte Vista Police Department, the Colorado State Patrol, and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation began the investigation into the killings immediately.

On January 5, 2013, Daniel Bessey was arrested in Oklahoma. In addition to first degree murder charges, Bessey also faces charges of first and second degree burglary, criminal mischief, three counts of child abuse, and reckless endangerment.

He is presently being held in Beckham County, Oklahoma.

Sara Beasley was a mom of 3 boys. John Salazar was a custodian for the Monte Vista School District.
