Mt. Herman wildfire fully contained

A half-acre wildfire on Mt. Herman is 100% contained Friday morning.

A spokesman for the Tri Lakes Monument Fire Department told KRDO NewsChannel 13 that the fire was near Forest Service road 716 and Mt. Herman Road. Crews were able to keep the fire at half an acre. Firefighters will continue to monitor the site on Friday and check it again on Saturday.

No structures were in danger, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office though Mt. Herman Road was closed at Red Rocks Drive about five miles away from the fire. The roads have since reopened.

The fire is on U.S. Forest Service land. They have crews on the fire along with Palmer Lake and the El Paso County Wildland Fire team.

A cause for the fire has not been determined.
