Hikers face fines for entering burn areas

The U.S. Forest Service has issued 14 citations to people violating a ban on camping or hiking in a burn area in northern Colorado.

Violations carry a fine up to $125 or people can go to court.

According to the Fort Collins Coloradoan, the citations have been issued since Poudre Canyon reopened to the public at the end of June.

The High Park Fire killed one person, burned about 136 square miles and destroyed nearly 260 houses west of Fort Collins.
