Colorado Springs Call For Justice

“We need your help right now God,” said a man rallying support at a Trayvon Martin protest held in Colorado Springs on Sunday.

It has been nearly a month since the unarmed black teenager in Florida was shot and killed and protests have erupted across the U.S..

“We come today armed with skittles, tea and raised hoodies because Trayvon still gives us a call to action,” said another man at the rally.

They are calling for the arrest of George Zimmerman. He’s is the 28-year-old neighborhood watch volunteer who shot Martin.

“The time is now to stop the madness,” one woman said.

“How could this really happen?” asked Ashanti Beene. Beene shared her story about dealing with discrimination and that she was wrongly arrested for acting in self-defense.

“Look how far we’ve come as people… to see this is such a shame in this country,” said Celisa Morris.

Zimmerman claims he acted in self-defense after a fight with the teen. He has not been arrested.

A grand jury is scheduled to begin hearing the case next month.
