TCA falls in epic state title game

PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Classical Academy (TCA) Titans dominant season came to a tough end with a 35-34 loss to Rifle in the 3A state championship game at CSU-Pueblo.

TCA scored the game's first 14 points, and led 20-7 after Cade Palmer scored on a 59 yard touchdown run.

Rifle answered 21 straight points. Down 20-13 at the half, the Bears ate more than 9 minutes off the clock on their way to a touchdown, and a 2-point conversion. The Bears then converted a surprise onside kick, and cashed in with another touchdown.

TCA finally got its first second half offensive possession in the fourth quarter, and promptly answered with a Sam Guilez touchdown pass to Jake Jennings. The 2-point conversion was no good.

After another Rifle score, Cade Palmer broke off another long touchdown run, his third, to bring TCA within 35-34 after the 2-point conversion.

Tanner Eide forced a fumble to give the Titans the ball back, but Palmer lost a fumble a few plays later and Rifle ran out the clock.

TCA finishes the season 6-1.
