Man arrested after attacking officers during rampage in north Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- It took a whole team of officers with Tasers to finally subdue a man wielding a religious statue as a weapon during a rampage earlier this week in the north side of Colorado Springs.

Colorado Springs police say it started when they got 14 calls about a man "intentionally ramming vehicles" and trying to hit people with his pickup truck Monday evening on Sword Dancer Drive. Callers also reported that the man was chasing people with a metal pole.

Officers found exactly that when they arrived: the man was "actively damaging property with a metal pole," and he threw the pole at an officer in defiance of their commands. After that, police say the man came at one of the officers "while holding a large metal religious statue."

Police say the suspect, identified as 48-year-old Yeurashka Graham, repeatedly said he was going to kill the officer. That's when the officer used a Taser on Graham for the first time, stunning him multiple times while he tried to hit the officer with the statue.

But despite being stunned, police say Graham was able to "pull the Taser wires off his body," get back on his feet, and then get the statue again while threatening the officer.

More police officers arrived several minutes later, and he was stunned "several more times while continuing to fight with multiple officers," according to a police report. Eventually he was taken into custody and moved to a hospital to be evaluated before being booked into jail.

Graham's facing multiple charges, including attempted murder, assault on a peace officer, several counts of assault and menacing, along with criminal mischief and driving under the influence. He currently has a bond set at $500,000.
