Update: Shot Fired At Springs Church While Worshipers Were Inside
A Colorado Springs neighborhood is shocked after a bullet rips through a church while congregation members were inside.
According to one church member, vandals have been targeting this place of worship for years, but no one ever expected it to escalate into gunfire.
?You can expect that at a bar, or an apartment complex where a party is going on,? said Peggy, a church member for 27 years. ?But at a church, it’s a little too far-fetched.?
Peggy, who asked that her last name not be used, said the church also rents the building to another congregation.
?They were having service at the time,? said Peggy. ?They were in the building when this happened. They were very well shaken.?
Peggy said break-ins and vandalism have been a regular occurrence for years.
?We?ve got people who come in here and park and trash it out,? said Peggy.
Metal was placed over the lower level windows just to keep vandals out.
?If you go around the back they’ve (vandals) already torn down fences,? said Peggy. ?We find beer bottles throughout the property.?
Now Peggy is just hoping for peace so that church members can attend worship services without fearing violence.
?There?s too many innocent people who are being shot everyday (and) killed everyday,? said Peggy. ?We don’t need this. Colorado Springs is a beautiful place to be.?
No one was injured in the shooting. So far police do not have any suspects or motive.
The Apostolic Assembly Church, also known as Asamblia Apostolica and Springs Family Life Center, is located between Academy and Chelton in Colorado Springs.
