Pueblo Making It Easier To Get Around
Pueblo is spearheading construction to make the city more handicapped accessible, but city leaders need to hear from you about needed improvements.
The goal of leaders in Pueblo is to make life easier for those who may need a little help.
The people who work at the Pueblo Public Works Department want to keep you safe. Sam Vigil is one of those people. He oversees projects like the one 14th and Court street, where old curbs are being replaced.
“I think it is very important for the city of Pueblo to be doing these curb improvements, not only to comply with the American with Disabilities Act but to upgrade the community as a whole,? said Vigil, engineering manager for the department of public works.
Earl Wilkinson, director of Public works said they have been working on curb ramp projects for several years.
“I think we have been able to do a lot of things that have made Pueblo a very accessible place to live,” said Wilkinson.
He wants to do more, but can?t unless you speak up.
“We’re asking for more input. If you feel there is a curb ramp that is out of compliance then let us know,” said Wilkinson.
In order to do that you need to go to the public works office on 211 E. D Street. Your recommendations need to have the locations, and why you would like to see a curb ramp there. Your suggestion won?t become a reality overnight.
“Basically, it’s going to be put into our project for next year and we will go into there and do whatever it takes to get as many as we can accomplished,” said Wilkinson.
