District Attorney Employee Charged for DUI
An employee of the El Paso County District Attorney?s Office was arrested this weekend, after a traffic crash. Police charged the employee with DUI, careless driving and DUI per se, which means the person drove with excessive alcohol content.
Under the “per se” law, you can be convicted of drunken driving upon proof that a blood alcohol content level was reached within two hours of driving, regardless of whether the driver was actually drunk when behind the wheel.
Unnamed sources told TARGET 13 the employee had a blood alcohol level more than two times the legal limit, which is .08.
Shelly Lagrill, district attorney spokesperson, told TARGET 13 Investigates another employee in the office brought the arrest to their attention.
Lagrill wouldn?t reveal the employee?s name or if any disciplinary action was taken, citing that this was a personnel issue.
LaGrill told TARGET 13 a special prosecutor will brought in to handle the criminal case.
