Colorado Marks First Texting-While-Driving Ticket

AURORA, Colo. (AP) – A Denver teenager is thought to be the first in Colorado to be cited for texting while driving.

Nineteen-year-old Jordyn Lucas of Denver was cited after abandoning her wrecked car in Aurora. When contacted by police, Lucas said she crashed her car while texting behind the wheel. She was cited Jan. 3.

Colorado lawmakers banned texting while driving last year, with the ban taking effect in December. The violation carries a $50 fine but no points against a drivers license.

All cell-phone use if off-limits for drivers under 18 under the new law.
