FOUNTAIN- The intersection of Ohio and Main Street is a busyintersection in Fountain. Thousands of cars travel through it every day and many of the drivers don’t realize there is an elementary school just a block away.
“It’s scary, you never know when their brakes won’t work,” says 10-year old Josh Zimmerman.
The Aragon Elementary School student is on the 5th grade student council. One of his campaign promises is to make others aware of how dangerous the intersection can be to young kids, so he called Fountain Mayor Jeri Howells.
“I was about to cross and he just ran by, he was pretty close to running me over,” Zimmerman told the Mayor.
After showing the Mayor his concerns, she agreed and promised to look into putting in blinking lights and increasing police patrols in the area.
“This is the first time I’ve ever stood out here and watch what the difficulties could be,” says Howells. “As you notice it’s a four-way stop, so one car is stopped but someone is always going.’
Josh tells NEWSCHANNEL 13 he plans on making sure the Mayor keeps her promise, because he plan on keeping his.
