Serious car crash west of Canon City closes Highway 50 in both directions

CANON CITY, Colo. (KRDO) - One person has died and several others are seriously injured including children in a roll over crash near Canon City.

Colorado State Patrol says the crash happened about five miles west of Canon City on U.S. Highway 50 around 10:00 a.m. Saturday. Investigators say it was a single-car crash involving a mini-van carrying three adults and four children.

The car was traveling eastbound when it collided with a natural rock wall and rolled nearly two times before the vehicle came to a stop. One of the adults was ejected from the car and died at the scene. CSP saying a child in a booster seat was also ejected from the car suffering serious injuries. They were transported to St. Thomas More Hospital and then flown to Children's Hospital in Colorado Springs.

The remaining passengers were transported to St. Thomas More Hospital.

Highway 50 was closed for about five hours for the investigation.
