Troopers investigate two-vehicle fatal crash in Alamosa County

ALAMOSA COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- One person is dead after a crash Tuesday evening on Highway 160 in Alamosa County.

Just after 6 p.m., troopers say a 2010 Kenworth semi box truck was traveling eastbound on Highway 160. The driver tried to turn left onto Del Viento Drive when a 2006 Ford Explorer rear ended the Kenworth in the eastbound lane. The Kenworth pulled off onto the shoulder of the road while dragging the Ford with it.

Troopers say the driver of the Ford was dead at the scene while the driver of the Kenworth suffered no injuries. An underage passenger in the Ford vehicle suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Colorado State Patrol identified the fatal victim as 41-year-old Nicholas Sandoval of Alamosa.

The crash is still under investigation. It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were involved in this accident, according to CSP.
