Jets and warbirds take to the sky for the Pikes Peak Regional Airshow

Depending on where you were Saturday, looking up to the sky may have been inevitable. The F-22 Raptor Demonstration Team along with WWII Flying Warbirds took to the clouds for the Pikes Peak Regional Airshow.

Safely from the ground, guests were able to see the pilots’ death-defying rolls and impressive tricks.

“It even did a full roll, I mean in maybe 100 to 200 feet,” said Tim Davis of Colorado Springs.

A P-38 Lightning WWII era fighter aircraft stemming back to 1942 peaked many people’s interest. The history is also appreciated by some of the youngest visitors, including 15-year-old J.T. Cleveland.

“The P-38 is just one really cool aircraft and there’s maybe two or three flying now,” he said.

The old charm also joined another popular aircraft, an F-22 fighter jet. It’s roar could be heard from miles away, echoing as it climbed high into the sky.

“The P-38 and the F-22 were flying in formation, it was trippy to see old and new like that. It was breathtaking,” said Mark Gabriel from Colorado Springs.

The F-22 Raptor demonstration team was also present, using precision to demonstrate their unique maneuvers.

“The F-22 demonstration is probably by far one of the coolest things I’ve seen,” said 17-year-old Adam Carey.

It’s those pilots that are also inspiring our future airmen.

“It’s something I’m possibly thinking about doing in my future. So seeing the raw power the air force also has is something that intrigues me as something I’d like to do some day,” Carey said.

It goes to show that the jets and warbirds of the past are admired and cherished with every generation that comes.
