Paddle-board yoga boom in Southern Colorado amid COVID-19
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- With many activities being restricted due to COVID-19, paddle-boarding is offering a fun, enjoyable experience outdoors, despite the stress of the pandemic.
The recreational activity has seen a major rise in popularity echoed by the founder of Dragonfly Paddleboard Yoga, Christine Malmborg. The yoga instructor writes, "Colorado’s lakes are beautiful, and what better way to spend time on the water than doing paddle-board yoga!"
Paddle-board Yoga is a popular hybrid style of yoga that involves the use of Stand-Up Paddle-boards (SUPs) on still water such as a lake or sea.
Many paddle-boarders say spending time out on the lake is a great way to be socially distant, spend time working out, and enjoy the warm summer weather.
The paddle-board yoga instructor, Christine Malmborg says, "When my season started, it was after I think about a month and a half of the stay at home orders, and people were ready to get outside." She adds, "It was a relief for people to have something to do because there weren’t a lot of businesses that we were able to open just yet."
Malmborg teaches paddle-board yoga at Monument Lake through 90-minute classes that guide yogis through a dynamic, flowing yoga sequence connecting breath with movement, and says she thinks the healing aspect of yoga plays a role in the increased interest in paddle-boarding amid the pandemic.
