Record heat on the way, CSFD ready for potential fire danger
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- We have the potential to see record highs in temperature with very little moisture in the air later this week, and that could lead to some serious problems when it comes to fire danger.
Lt. Joey Buttenwieser with the Colorado Springs Fire Department said, “It just takes a matter of an hour or two in that hot sun, dry air; the relative humidity drops and just really takes the moisture out of those fuels.”
So to help prevent a fire, especially during these upcoming days, CSFD recommends taking a few precautions.
"Just normal outdoor recreation, we want to make sure aren’t kicking their cigarette butts out windows,” said Buttenwieser.
And no matter the time of year, fire mitigation is extremely important.
"Have a reduced fuel load around your home, 30 feet around your home that will help us protect your home if a fire intrudes upon the area.”
And if you do decide to mitigate the area around your home, you can schedule an appointment with CSFD where they will come to your home and get rid of the branches and limbs that you cleaned out.
