Local bee keepers need your hay!

As you start to throw away your Halloween decorations, there's one thing you'll want to hang on to.

"As a beekeeper, when the winter time comes, we like to put hay around the beehives to stabilize the temperatures, and keep [the bees] from eating up all their stores for the winter," said local bee keeper Dustin Maze.

Bee keepers across southern Colorado can use your leftover hay to keep their bees alive and cozy during the winter months.

"The best thing we can do is put some all the way around the hive. That way, when the Northern Winds hit it, it doesn't make [the bees] work harder," said Maze. "The harder they work, the more they eat their food. Our temperatures here are up and down. The more they fluctuate, the more the bees eat up all their stores."
