Springs Rescue Mission begins weekly food drive

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- With summer approaching, and the impacts of the coronavirus still being felt, this can be a tough time for a lot of people and families who need help getting food. The Springs Rescue Mission is stepping in.

Every Friday, from now until the end of June, they're passing out food boxes from noon until 3 p.m.

"We've had such an outpouring of compassion from the community -- members bringing food and donating to the Springs Rescue Mission," said chief development officer Travis Williams. "We want to make sure we're doing everything we can to make sure that families who need a meal can find a meal during the season."

The Springs Rescue Mission is asking for canned foods, cereal, peanut butter and other non-perishable items.

For the folks who work there, helping others takes a lot of work and dedication. They need help from Coloradans. Luckily, Coloradans keep coming through.

The weekly food drives will be held at 111 Las Vegas Street.
