Customers support Canon City cinema through curbside concessions

CANON CITY, Colo. (KRDO) -- There are no movies showing at a theater in Canon City, but it's still a popping place. And the corn is popping too!

4 Mile Cinemas opens up its curbside concessions every Saturday night. From about 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. people can stop by to grab popcorn, cotton candy and ICEES.

While they're closed, they still have lease payments to make. And even when the theater can open again, the owner says Hollywood won't be releasing any blockbusters until later this year.

With that uncertainty in the movie industry, buying concessions is a way for movie goers to support their local theater through a tough time.

The owner of the cinema, Karen Nothdurft, is grateful for the support.

"The tips that they're leaving is unbelievable," she said. "Our community is great. We support them as much as we possibly can and they support us unbelievably."

DJ Marty Wayne McDowell volunteered to keep the party going while people waited for their snacks. And local kindergarten teachers were there buying popcorn and candy for their graduating class.
