COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Colorado teen Mikaela Fischer is making good use of her time at home. So far, she's donated over 1,000 masks around the United States.

Fischer started a community service outreach program called 'Masks for Hope' in late March. Fischer has been using the money from her job and her allowance to pay for the materials.

The teen learned how to sew masks via Youtube tutorials online. She donates the masks to the military, hospitals, senior centers and nursing homes. The high school student works seven to eight hours a day creating masks while wrapping up her spring semester.
