A Palmer graduate is the UCCS male student-athlete of the year
"I told myself when I got to college I'd actually apply myself more so I can have a higher GPA and stuff like that," says UCCS senior, Will Ross.
Will Ross has applied himself more, in fact, this year he was named the UCCS male student athlete of the year, "It meant a lot. I wasn't expecting it and then all of sudden I see the Instagram post. It means a lot because I worked pretty hard to excel both in the classroom and on the track," says Ross. He's excelled in both, he carries close to a 3.9 grade point average and he holds the school records in the triple jump and long jump in both indoor and outdoor track. He was getting ready to compete in the indoor nationals in Birmingham, Alabama when they were canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, "At the time it just kinda didn't feel real. It was like oh maybe there gonna let us compete but with no fans. I was ranked pretty high, I wanted to get my first All-American trophy so that was disappointing. It was gonna be like the perfect ending you know cuz it was my senior year but it didn't end that way," says Ross. No it wasn't the perfect ending but Will will have an ending because he didn't lose his eligibility for spring outdoor track, "So for next year I have a whole year to get ready so my goals I'm going to set them higher. Definitely All American. It's great to have that opportunity to be able to come back," says Ross.
