PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Pueblo County Sheriff's Office has made an arrest in a stabbing incident sent a 73-year-old man to the hospital with non-life threatening wounds.

Deputies took 37-year-old John J. Ortega Jr. into custody Wednesday after he allegedly stabbed an elderly man that afternoon.

Deputies were called to a home in the 2000 block of South Road around 1:45 p.m. on a report of a stabbing. At the scene, deputies found a man bleeding from a stab wound to the neck. The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment, but the sheriff's office says his injuries aren't life threatening.

The victim was able to tell deputies which direction the suspect had gone. Soon after, another deputy saw a man matching the suspect's description walk into a shed in the 1900 block of La Salle Road. The deputy gave verbal orders for Ortega to come out and he was taken into custody without incident.

Now, Ortega is facing attempted second degree murder, first degree assault, felony menacing and crimes against an at-risk adult.
