68-acre fire burning on Hayman Fire burn scar west of Deckers
JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- You might see some smoke Sunday from a wildfire, dubbed the '560 Fire', that's burning west of Deckers on the old Hayman Fire burn scar.
The blaze was reported around 12:30 p.m. Saturday off of Forest Road 560, about 3 miles northwest of Cheesman Lake. As of an update on 2:15 p.m. Sunday, it's grown to 68 acres and is at 80 percent containment, said fire officials with the Pike & San Isabel National Forests.
Crews from the U.S. Forest service and North Fork fire are on scene. No structures are threatened at this time and no evacuations have been ordered, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
"The fire is burning in the old Hayman burn scar through heavy standing dead and downed trees," said the U.S. Forest Serivice. "These trees not only create a tripping hazard for firefighters but they also put firefighters at risk from falling trees. The fire is burning in very steep and rugged terrain."
Officials caution that smoke from this fire can be seen from the surrounding counties. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
